Redact a screenshot before you share it
Screenshots leak more than people expect: emails, names, order numbers, API keys. Cover them with a solid block in a few seconds, without uploading the image anywhere.

How to redact a screenshot before you share it
- 1Drop, paste or choose your screenshot above.
- 2Click Hide an area and drag over each private detail. Solid is selected for you, as it is the safest.
- 3Check the whole image once more, then copy or download.
Tips
- Look beyond the obvious: browser tabs, notification badges, profile pictures and URLs often give away more than the main content.
- Solid blocks cannot be reversed. Blur and pixelate are softer looking but less safe for short secrets.
- The saved image is redrawn from scratch, so it does not carry hidden data from the original file, such as photo location.
Questions
Which hide style is the safest?+
Solid. It replaces the area with a flat color, so nothing underneath can be recovered. Use it for passwords, keys and account numbers.
Is the redaction permanent?+
Yes, in the image you copy or download. The original file on your device is not changed.
Does the saved image keep the original file's metadata?+
No. RioShot draws a brand new image, so details stored in the original file, such as camera or location data, are not carried over.
Is my screenshot uploaded anywhere?+
No. RioShot edits the image inside your browser, on your own device. There is no server that receives or stores your picture.
Is it really free?+
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many images you edit. RioShot is supported by sponsors.
